Hi, I'm Andrea Grassi

Telecommunications and Physics teacher, maker, engineer and technology enthusiast. I design, build and teach innovative STEM projects.

  • 7+Years of projects
  • 75+Students involved
  • 550+Hours in makerspace

About me

I combine engineering, making and teaching to turn ideas into practical, working systems.

IT teacher, with a background in Computer Science and Electronic Engineering.

Outside the classroom, I work in a fully equipped lab on 3D printing, CNC, and DIY projects. I also produce music as a DJ, practice photography, and fly drones.

I am drawn to technology and software development, and I enjoy connecting with people to exchange ideas and turn concepts into practical builds. STEM education is central to what I do: I aim to make digital and technical skills accessible, engaging, and hands-on.

I welcome collaboration, new challenges, and interdisciplinary work. Teamwork, creativity, and experimentation drive how I teach and build.

Projects

Check out some of my latest projects, reflecting my passion for building, designing and experimenting with technology and DIY solutions.

Makerspace

Home Lab

I run a creative lab, a fully equipped makerspace with laser cutter, 3D printers and CNC machine, creating hands-on DIY projects.
It's a hub for innovation, learning and collaboration, where I use and share my passion for technology and creativity.
My 3D printed creations are available to download on Makerworld.

CNC

CNC machine

Designed and built a custom CNC milling machine from scratch, featuring a 430 × 830 mm working area for machining a variety of materials. The project covered the entire development lifecycle, from mechanical design and component selection to assembly, calibration, and testing.

DotPress Braille Printer

DotPress: Ethical Engineering & Assistive Tech

DotPress is a low-cost, open-source Braille printer designed to bridge the gap in assistive technology. Developed as an ethical engineering initiative, the project won 1st place at the Fabbricando 2026 innovation award by Danieli Group.

The system bypasses the high costs of traditional Braille embossers through intelligent mechanical management, repurposing motorized 3D printer axes for high-precision tactile punching. A custom-developed software converts standard text into specialized G-Code, controlling the axes to stamp text with the exact depth and delicacy required for tactile reading. This project explores how open hardware and custom software can drive true digital inclusion and social impact.

InnovAlgae

InnovAlgae

Developed a startup concept focused on transforming CO₂ emissions and waste heat from steel plants into valuable resources through Spirulina cultivation. The project explored a circular economy model by producing sustainable superfood ingredients and phycocyanin, a natural blue pigment for the food, cosmetics, and textile industries. Contributed to market research, business model development, financial planning, scientific analysis, and project management to evaluate the technical and commercial feasibility of the initiative.
